You will then be met by your guide and you will by led through the production area of the distillery learning how to make our water of life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your full-sensory tour culminates in a tutored whisky tasting of 3 drams and 3 wee cocktails in our Tasting Room \u2013 a delicious ending to a wonderful adventure at the Lowland Home of Johnnie Walker.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Few parts of Scotland can boast of more history than this. In 1745 Prince Charles Edward Stuart reached the peak of his brief power at Prestonpans on the Firth of Forth just north of Glenkinchie, where his Highlanders defeated John Cope\u2019s Hanoverian forces with such certainty that London itself seemed under threat.<br \/>\nThe contemporary folk song \u2018Johnny Cope\u2019 records Cope\u2019s shocking defeat and his reaction after fleeing back to Dunbar, leaving his men.Distilling (mostly illegal) was taking place here long before the skills of crop rotation were know; in 1777 Edinburgh housed perhaps four hundred illicit distilleries. When the law was changed to permit smaller licensed distilleries, many farmers took out licenses.By the time the distillery was founded in 1837, 115 licensed distilleries were recorded in the Lowlands, though their products would probably not pass muster today!<br \/>\nWhat to Expect<\/p>\n<p><strong>ED STAG TIP OF THE DAY<\/strong><br \/>\nSome of these malts are the real deal. If you are not used to drinking whisky pleasae be advised you will eventually hit the wall. When everything starts spinning you might want to consider slowing down or eating a spicy haggis supper.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PRIVATE TRANSPORT<\/strong><br \/>\nOur distillery is located about 35 minutes from Edinburgh city centre.
